Neurotrophic Factors 2009 |
| Jun 21-26, 2009 at Salve Regina University, Newport Rhode Island United States |
| Neurotrophic factors play essential roles in the developing and mature nervous system. Now more than 50 years old, this field of study continues to contribute breakthrough discoveries regarding the fundamental biology of cell-cell communication and the development and maintenance of the most complex and elegant biological machine - the brain. Neurotrophic factors influence cell proliferation, survival, differentiation, migration, axon and dendrite growth, synaptic plasticity and the interactions of neuronal and glial cells. They play critical roles in complex behaviors including feeding, anxiety, depression and learning. Studies of neurotrophic factors may have important implications for the treatment of a variety of neurological diseases including disorders of neural development and as well as diseases of the differentiated nervous system including Alzheimer's disease, Down syndrome, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, epilepsy, stroke, and peripheral neuropathies. Heterocyclic Compounds 2009 |
| Jun 28-Jul 3, 2009 at Salve Regina University, Newport Rhode Island United States |
| Initiated in 1964, the GRC on Heterocyclic Compounds is one of the longest running Gordon Research Conferences, which reflects the vitality and importance of the subject matter. Heterocyclic compounds account for well over half of all known organic compounds. Many classes of natural products, as well as a large majority of commercially important drugs, agrochemicals, reprographic materials, dyes, etc., contain heterocyclic rings. Hence the synthesis and study of heterocyclic compounds, is a subject of immense importance both for academia and industry. The continued evolution of this field is crucial to achieving efficient, cost-effective solutions to increasingly complex problems in organic synthesis and to accessing unexplored structural space. Through formal research lectures from outstanding scientists, poster sessions and informal discussions, this conference presents an excellent opportunity to any scientist who is interested in gaining knowledge of the most recent advances in this important field. Poster Sessions: There will be two poster sessions at the meeting. Poster presenters will be given preference for acceptance into the meeting. From the poster abstracts received by 31 May 2009, up to four posters will be chosen to be |
